Love, Rope, & Cupcakes

With nine principals and nearly forty background actors to style on my own, Love, Rope, & Cupcakes had me create a unified aesthetic with pieces out of everyone's closets.
The challenge of this project was twofold: first, the contemporary setting required me to be more subtle with the accessories and color stories I utilized to illustrate relationships between the characters. This was a welcome and necessary test and improvement of skill -- with so many principal characters to introduce and follow in such a limited runtime, the visual shorthand was vital to keeping the story comprehensible. The second complicating element was the question of how to include BDSM and kink aesthetics in a manner which would be readable to an unacquainted audience without feeling gimmicky or untrue to those that are active in those communities. Luckily, being able to collaborate with the actors helped me strike that balance to create a sexy scene just as intimidating as it is casual.
